LA's Modular Course

Qualifications:

Meteorological Attendants who are matriculate and have completed at least 5 years of service in IMD and Laboratory Attendants.

Period and Location:

2 months, at Pune, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. (However technical control like supervision, framing of syllabus, supply of course material, setting of question papers and evaluation rest with CTI, Pune.)

Main Objective:

To make the trainees aware of the functioning of the department and to enable them to perform observational work such as Surface, Pilot balloon, etc.

Subjects Taught:

• Meteorological Instruments and Methods of Observation
• Elementary Meteorological Theory
• Indian Climatology

Mode of Evaluation of Performance:

There are two written papers and one practical paper for examination, viz.

• General Meteorology and Indian Climatology, and
• Methods of Observation and Codes
• Practical Examination in recording surface observations, pilot balloon observations, computation of upper winds, coding, decoding and charting.

Examination is held once as objective type at the end of the course. Also candidates are interviewed by a board of officers and marks are allotted for this viva voce examination.

The marks obtained in the class work are counted towards the final result and evaluation. Certificates are issued in due course to the candidates on successful completion of examination.
