What started as a repair shop for defective meteorological instruments, soon became a major manufacturing organisation under the aegis of Govt. of India. The workshop houses most of the important shops from carpentry and foundry to CNC and jigs. A workforce of over 200 technical personnel carry out various activities involved in the manufacture of over 30 instruments. All components and spare parts are also included in the manufacturing schedule. The manufactured instruments strictly adhere to international and national standards to ensure high quality in performance. All repair works involved in the defective equipment returned from field network stations are also undertaken here.
The workshop also does the repair works of various defective meteorological instruments belonging to different Government organisations and private and educational institutions. It also entertains and impart practical training to several apprentices in different disciplines of workshop activities.
