To ensure smooth functioning of the entire activity, the Division has a well stacked Stores, a purchase wing, a supply unit which arranges all supplies to network stations and an administrative unit which looks after general housekeeping and caters to the needs of human resources.
The stores keeps a well accounted items worth several million rupees. They include raw materials, spare parts for equipment and manufactured instruments in finished form ready for supply for network use. The issue and receipt of materials are accounted according to standard practices and the accountings are up to date.
All items needed for the production schedule are purchased according to the standard procedures and their timely availability is ensured by the personnel of this wing. All imports – raw and finished equipment – are also handled by them. The average purchase in a year exceeds one crore and this may be several times higher when costly equipments like Automatic Weather Stations, Transmissometers, Ceilometers, High Wind Speed Recorders etc. are procured. Standard practices of processing after specification evaluation, tender evaluation and testing of the procured stores are strictly adhered to.
The requirements of a field station for instruments and components and spare items needed for observational work are catered by this unit. It coordinates between the laboratories and workshop over the instruments manufactured and their certification is carried out by this unit. The packing and despatch of them to field stations are also monitored. Instruments received from the field stations for repairs are also taken care of by coordinating between the laboratories and the workshop. Instruments received from non-departmental agencies for repairs and calibrations are also dealt by the unit and it keeps track of the bills involved. One of the most important responsibility in this unit is making the necessary supply of all stationery – forms, recording charts, pens, recording inks and other items - required over a year at each field station for observational work.
Takes care of service conditions and welfare of the personnel working in the Division. Necessary budgetary provisions for each activity in the Division are made and monitored closely.
