Important Ongoing Projects

• Automation of Part Time Observatories through DRT – 100 Observatories
• AWS Data Monitoring and dissemination station at Pune. 
• Installation of about 1000 Satellite-linked Automatic Raingauges for automatic recording and transmitting the real time data using the Data Relay Transponder of INSAT and Kalpana-1.
  • Installation of 125 AWS across India. (First phase of network expansion)
• Installation of 5000 Automatic Rain Gauge Stations (ARG)
  • Installation of 500 ARG stations in first phase
• Installation of 100 Automatic Weather Stations on  Voluntary Observing Fleets.  These will have Metsat/INSAT links in addition to a dial-up facility.  The system will also have the facility for recording the data for 6-8 months, which could be retrieved later by using PCMCIA card or other solid-state memory device.
• Procurement of Lightning Detection System
