With more airports being upgraded for international air traffic, it is necessary that meteorological instruments for providing data for flight operations are made modern as per ICAO requirements. This is a mandatory requirement. Five airports are being provided with state-of-art weather monitoring system in the first phase.
There are 35 important airports where IMD provides meteorological input for aviation services. A master plan proposed by IMD is under review of Ministry of Civil Aviation. Detailed schemes including priorities for phased installations are to be drawn by the technical working group constituted by Civil Aviation Ministry.
