REPORT ON THE 137TH IMD FOUNDATION DAY
The 137th Foundation Day of India Meteorological Department was celebrated at Shivajinagar campus on 25th January, 2012. The day was to commemorate the foundation of IMD on 15th January, 1875. This function was being celebrated for the first time at Pune in the IMD office, popularly know as SIMLA OFFICE, which is one of the landmark in Pune city. On this day, generally, the advancements and achievements in various IMD activities and services are highlighted and to spread awareness and outreach the public through popular talks. During this day, the best employees are also awarded for their excellent services in the department.
The IMD foundation day began at 2.30 pm and was presided over by AVM (Dr.) Ajit Tyagi, Director General of Meteorology. Shri S. Krishnaiah, ADGM, Pune welcomed the dignitaries and the audience of staff and officers, retired IMD employees. The Chief guest of this function was Shri. Umakant Dangat, Commissioner Agriculture, Maharashtra State and Smt P.P. Jog, Deputy Director General, National Informatics centre, Pune and Dr. Uday Shankar De, retired ADM, Pune, were the guests of honour. Dr Tyagi during his speech highlighted on the IMD modernization programmes as part of XII five year plan projects. The chief guest Shri Dangat in his talk appreciated the IMD activities to various users group. Smt. Jog informed the e-governance programmes in all the government offices were to bring transparency in their activities and how it helped the Government to reach the public. Dr De in his popular talk enumerated on the benefits to all the users by IMD services in the past and present.
During this day, 12 publications prepared for the operational and research purposes were released. 22 IMD employees were felicitated with awards for their excellent services. There was a cultural programme that included dances and songs with a theme of seasons to entertain the audience.
The programme was over at 5.15 PM with national anthem, after vote of thanks by Dr. Bhagat.
